New York, 24 June 2023 (WAI): The Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to United Nations, Ambassador Aamir Khan, presented a powerful speech, underscoring the enormous impact terrorism has inflicted on Pakistan and emphasizing the critical need for global cooperation in combating this menace.
Envoy Khan stated that Pakistan has been one of the world’s principal victims of terrorism for over a decade, suffering massive human and economic losses. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s threat is exacerbated by the funding and support that terrorist organizations operating within its borders continue to get from its adversaries. Furthermore, he asserted that spoilers in its neighborhood continually target its citizens, actively assisting and abetting attacks planned by known groups, including Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Daesh, and others.
The diplomat emphasized the need to combat terrorism as a global challenge that demands coordinated action. He reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to counter-terrorism activities at all levels, including legislative measures, law enforcement initiatives, and intelligence sharing. However, he highlighted that more than unilateral endeavors is required and that a complete, collaborative strategy is required to eliminate this scourge effectively.
The Pakistan mission to United Nations affirmed that Pakistan is strongly convinced that the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (GCTS) is an essential framework for international collaboration in combating terrorism.
The GCTS lays forth an all-encompassing plan of action by focusing on four primary domains: eliminating the causes of terrorism, preventing and fighting it, strengthening state capacities, and protecting human rights. The representative urged all states to fully implement and maintain the GCTS, recognizing that continuous and concerted action is required for success.

He underlined the need to cut off terrorist finance sources, disrupt their networks, and bring those responsible to justice. Additionally, he stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of terrorism, such as poverty, injustice, and political instability.
The country’s representative concluded his speech by reiterating Pakistan’s unshakeable dedication to fighting terrorism and asking the international community to collaborate on this critical matter. He emphasized the necessity of teamwork in destroying terrorism from the inside out and stressed that no nation should shoulder the burden alone.
Diplomat Khan declared that Pakistan is prepared to collaborate closely with all nations, international organizations, and regional partners to establish a safer world free of terrorism. To clear the way for a better, more secure future, he expressed optimism that we can all work together to address this global challenge collaboratively.
