Islamabad, 3 May 2024 (WAI): Pakistan’s space program achieved an unprecedented milestone as the country’s inaugural lunar orbiter embarked on its journey aboard China’s Chang’e-6 lunar mission. This marked a significant leap forward in Pakistan’s space exploration endeavors.

Amidst great anticipation, the Pakistani satellite, part of the Chang’e-6 mission, was launched from China’s Henan Space Launch Site, heralding a new era of collaboration and technological advancement in space exploration.

The mission aims to collect approximately 2kg of lunar samples from the moon’s “dark side and bring them back to Earth for analysis, representing a pioneering effort in human lunar exploration.

The Pakistani satellite, named iCube Qamar, is a testament to the dedication and expertise of Pakistan’s scientists and engineers and the fruitful collaboration between Pakistan’s national space agency, SUPARCO, and China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The satellite, weighing approximately 7 kilograms, is equipped with advanced imaging capabilities, sensors for data collection, and communication equipment for deep-space communication, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to scientific research and technological innovation.
