Bengaluru, 21 June 2023 (WAI): After overcoming numerous obstacles and enduring an arduous journey, the Pakistan football team has finally arrived in Bengaluru to face their arch-rivals, India, in the highly anticipated SAFF Cup opening match. The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalization Committee had requested the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) to reschedule the match due to the team’s challenging circumstances. Unfortunately, the request was declined, and the competition will proceed as planned.
Understandably, the Pakistan team faces a formidable task, having traveled extensively and with little rest. Former Pakistan coach Zavisa Milosavljevic emphasized the importance of acclimatization and recovery training for optimal performance, citing the need for at least three days to adjust to local conditions. Nonetheless, the team remains undeterred and ready to face the challenges head-on.
Head coach Shehzad Anwar expressed the team’s commitment to giving their best despite the circumstances. He acknowledged the strength of the Indian team, highlighting their recent successes and experience. However, he also emphasized Pakistan’s progress, particularly their commendable performance in Mauritius, where they displayed excellent football and fought bravely against Kenya.
