Islamabad, 21 June 2023 (WAI): Pakistan and China have signed a landmark accord to build the Chashma-5 Nuclear Power Plant in a historic collaboration to facilitate clean energy aspirations. This state-of-the-art facility, backed by an impressive investment of $4.8 billion, is set to generate an astounding 1,200,000 kilowatts of clean energy, marking a significant milestone in the global transition to sustainable power sources.
Wang Yongge, president of China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas Ltd (CNOS), and Muhammad Saeed ur Rehman, member of Pakistan’s Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), signed the MoU.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, and Chinese Chargé d’affaires Pang Chunxue attended the ceremony. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the value of the new power project, saying that the agreement between the two countries is a crucial effort toward strengthening economic relations between the two countries. He also mentioned his earlier inauguration of the K-3 nuclear power facility in Karachi and emphasized his desire to begin work on the C-5 project quickly.
