New Delhi, 21 June 2023 (WAI): On the solemn occasion of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh’s Death Anniversary, the Pakistan High Commission has issued 473 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India, enabling them to participate in the anniversary celebrations scheduled to be held in Pakistan from 21st to 30th June 2023. The endeavor intends to foster religious tourism while fortifying friendship and peace between the neighboring countries.
On behalf of the Pakistan High Commission, Diplomat conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes for a pleasant and successful journey to the Sikh pilgrims. He underlined the importance of religious tourism in developing mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and peaceful cohabitation among various backgrounds.
During their visit, the Sikh pilgrims would pay homage and offer prayers at revered Gurdwaras, including Nankana Sahib, Panja Sahib, and Kartarpur Sahib. These historical and spiritual sites hold immense importance for the Sikh community as they are associated with the lives and teachings of their revered Gurus.
Nankana Sahib, located in the province of Punjab, is the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. Pilgrims will have the privilege to visit the Gurdwara Janam Asthana, which marks the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. This sacred site is a source of inspiration for millions of Sikhs worldwide.
Panja Sahib, situated in Hassan Abdal, is believed to be where Guru Nanak Dev Ji imprinted his handprint on a boulder. The Gurdwara at Panja Sahib attracts devotees who seek spiritual solace and pay homage to this significant relic.
Furthermore, the pilgrims will visit Kartarpur Sahib, the holy shrine associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s final days. Located near the India-Pakistan border, this Gurdwara has gained special significance since the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor in 2019, enabling Sikhs from India to visit this sacred place without a visa.
