Islamabad, 26 August 2023 (WAI): The Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Jamal Shah, recently met with Capt. Retired Anwar-ul-Haq, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), to discuss a comprehensive plan for the revitalization and revamp of cultural infrastructure under the purview of the civic body, which is an essential step forward in improving the cultural landscape of the nation’s capital.
Minister Jamal Shah outlined several measures during the meeting to revitalize the cultural landscape in Islamabad. One of the discussion’s highlights was the imminent inauguration of ‘Bagh-e-Shuhada’ on September 6th, in an exquisite ceremony accompanied by a musical symphony. This event aims to pay solemn homage to the martyrs while hosting an exciting Art Exhibition at the Islamabad Art Gallery.
Minister Shah strongly underlined the importance of revitalizing and updating cultural monuments, anticipating a change that would give Islamabad a new look and play a crucial role in showcasing the nation’s rich legacy. The officials agreed on the necessity of joint efforts and decided to conduct on-site visits to develop strategic plans for improving and reviving cultural sites.
The discussion also covered building modern movie theaters in the Federal Territory so that locals can enjoy movies more conveniently. The proposal of an ‘Art City,’ or ‘Huner Gaon,’ attracted considerable interest, promising dedicated residence studios, workshops, and display places for artisans and authors. Minister Shah envisioned a holistic center where visual and performing artists could thrive and contribute substantially to the nation’s cultural tapestry.

Chairman Anwar-ul-Haq pledged to implement these imaginative recommendations under the Federal Minister’s broad cultural plan. He agreed that the red zone gates should be redesigned to improve the capital’s aesthetic attractiveness. In addition, the Chairman promised to facilitate the acquisition of inexpensive land within Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) boundaries to realize the desired “Art City” and housing society, representing a significant step toward empowering the creative process.
The envisioned projects promise to make Islamabad a cultural landmark and serve as an enticing tourist attractions.
