Islamabad, 11 August 2023 (WAI): European Union Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka, and a talented musical group performed an emotional tribute honoring Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day and exemplifying the spirit of unity in diversity. The performance, a soul-stirring rendition of Pakistan’s national song, ‘Pak Sarzamin,’ is a beautiful celebration of the nation’s cultural richness and the power of embracing diversity.
A video documenting this mesmerizing homage has musicians from all provinces of Pakistan, each playing their distinctive instrument to create a harmonious tapestry that resonates with the essence of the country. In a show of solidarity between the European Union and Pakistan, Ambassador Kionka played the trumpet herself.
During this significant celebration of unity in diversity, Ambassador Kionka wore Pakistan’s national outfit, a bright green shalwar kameez adorned with a white dupatta with batches of the flags of Pakistan and the European Union, elegantly exhibiting attire diplomacy and further symbolizing the profound connection between the European Union and Pakistan.
Among the talented musicians were Sulaeyman Khan from Balochistan, skillfully strumming the nylon guitar; Doulat Wali Baig from Gilgit Baltistan, mastering the sitar’s intricate melodies; Sameer Ahmed from Sindh contributing with the resonating bass guitar; Salman Adil from Punjab enchanting with his flute, Sarmad Ghafoor from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adding electronic keyboard and soundboard dimensions, and Amna Nizami from Islamabad adding electric guitar prowess. The piece is an excellent example of cross-cultural fusion, reflecting Pakistan’s rich diversity.

Former Secretary of State Hina Rabbani Khar expressed gratitude to Ambassador Kionka and the EU for their creative participation in Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations.
