Wellington, 2 February 2024(WAI): China expresses strong opposition and condemnation towards the recent Joint Statement issued after the Australia-New Zealand Foreign and Defense Ministerial Consultations, which made baseless allegations regarding China’s internal affairs.

It is reiterated that matters concerning Xinjiang, Xizang, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are entirely China’s internal affairs, touching upon its core interests, and are not open to external interference.

Xinjiang and Xizang have been integral parts of China’s territory since ancient times, witnessing significant economic and social development achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

The rights and interests of all ethnic groups have been fully safeguarded, leading to harmonious coexistence and remarkable progress. These achievements have been widely recognized internationally without prejudice or bias.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, supported by the central government, has effectively implemented measures to restore order and stability in recent years, promoting long-term prosperity and stability.

Legislation related to the National Security Law, under the Constitution and Basic Law, aims to ensure Hong Kong’s sustained stability and prosperity and has garnered broad-based support locally.

The One-China Principle, upheld by 183 countries, is fundamental to international relations and the stability of the Taiwan Straits. We urge governments, including New Zealand, to keep this principle and refrain from official interactions with Taiwanese authorities, undermining the region’s peace and stability.

Stability prevails in the East China Sea and the South China Sea, and relevant countries should respect regional efforts to maintain peace and stability, avoiding actions that sow discord or confrontation.

China voices severe concerns over AUKUS, which runs counter to nuclear non-proliferation efforts and perpetuates the Cold War mentality. Such actions undermine regional peace and security, necessitating prudent measures to maintain stability and development.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and New Zealand. China reaffirms its commitment to mutual respect, non-interference in internal affairs, and constructive dialogue, fostering continued cooperation and mutual benefit for both countries and peoples.
