Gaza 20 December 2023 (WAI): Following the devastation of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, Dr. Tedros, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), voiced great concern and emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that the Israeli military imprisoned several medical personnel during a four-day raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital last week.

Tedros expressed worry but stressed that losing another hospital has further destabilized Gaza’s precarious health sector.

Only one hospital remains open in the northern enclave of Gaza out of the 36 facilities. Currently, fewer than one-third of the hospitals are only partially available. Tedros demanded an instant truce and demanded that attacks on medical facilities, medical staff, and patients stop.

Many patients at Kamal Adwan Hospital were forced to escape on their own, putting their health and safety in grave danger, according to the president of the World Health Organization (WHO), because ambulances could not get to the hospital.

In a report released on Saturday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that Israeli soldiers had left the hospital.

There are unsubstantiated accusations in the media claiming an Israeli military bulldozer destroyed the tents of many internally displaced people outside the hospital, killing an unknown number of people.

With profound worry, Tedros emphasized that the WHO is very concerned about the welfare of the displaced people.

According to OCHA, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah has requested an inquiry into the event.

The Israeli army claimed to have found guns and ammunition inside the hospital and, according to OCHA, reported that it had detained ninety people as part of the operation.

With most of the people uprooted and crammed into a small space in the south, the humanitarian catastrophe in the enclave continues. They struggle with poor sanitation and a scarcity of basic supplies like food and water.

The declaration on Friday that the border gate between Israel and Gaza, Kerem Shalom, will reopen gave hope for a more excellent supply of assistance a boost. The assistance community applauded this development.

The border crossing in the south, Rafah, is the only open crossing since supplies started on October 21. It is available for the first time since October 7.

In response to this development, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) chief, Martin Griffiths, expressed hope that the agreement would be quickly implemented and improve the supply flow.
