US delegation meets Pakistan's minister of finance

Islamabad, 11 December 2023 (WAI): Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the acting Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, informed the US delegation on Monday of the caretaker government’s major reforms, such as the privatization of SOEs and changes to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

A call was made to the caretaker Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs by Elizabeth Horst, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Affairs of the United States of America.

Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the Federal Minister, greeted Elizabeth Horst and her team warmly and stated that Pakistan and the US have a broad, multifaceted, and long-standing connection.

Aiming to restore fiscal and economic stability to the nation, the Federal Minister briefed the visiting team on the plans and objectives for economic reform. To improve its efficiency in recording and digitizing the economy, she also provided information regarding the reform of FBR.

The US government and its citizens are entirely behind the government of Pakistan, said Elizabeth Horst, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Affairs, who also congratulated the finance minister.

She emphasized the positive links between the two nations and offered her assistance in advancing these ties economically.

The Finance Minister expressed gratitude to Elizabeth Horst and reaffirmed the goal of strengthening bilateral trade and investment relations with the United States.

There is a strong trading relationship between the United States and Pakistan. Pakistan’s principal commercial partner, the United States, trades in various industries, including agriculture and textiles.

The Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) provides a framework for trade-related negotiations to promote economic cooperation. Also, a thing to note is that the United States aids Pakistan’s growth by funding infrastructure, healthcare, and education projects through assistance programs.
