UNSC urges protection of humanitarian workers in Gaza

New York, 11 April 2024 (WAI): The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convened urgently today to address the escalating crisis in Gaza. Amidst the ongoing conflict, the Council issued a resounding demand that all parties involved fully respect the protected status of humanitarian workers, facilities, and operations under international law.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza:

The war in Gaza has entered its sixth month, leaving devastation in its wake.

A man-made famine, Israel’s relentless bombardment, and targeted killings of aid workers and civilians have exacerbated the situation.

Impact on Civilians and Aid Workers:

Over 32,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, and another 75,000 are injured.

A staggering 1.7 million people—two-thirds of Gaza’s population—have been forcibly displaced to Rafah in the south.

The siege has left Al-Shifa Hospital almost destroyed.

Tragically, aid workers face immense risks. Seven World Central Kitchen workers were killed in a recent Israeli attack, adding to the toll of over 220 humanitarian colleagues who have lost their lives. Among them, 179 were UN personnel.
