U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome visits Karachi

Karachi, 25 Jan 2024 (WAI): U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome recently visited Karachi, where he met with government officials and toured different institutions.

During his visit to Karachi, he met with the caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar, at the Chief Minister’s house. Both leaders exchanged views on trade and partnership. They also talk about strengthening the two countries’ economic development and shared goals.

Ambassador Blome also visited the American Business Council and met with its members. He appreciates the role of the private sector in sustainable economic growth, which increases trade and partnership between Pakistan and the U.S.

The U.S. Ambassador also met with Karachi officials and discussed several water security challenges. They discuss the collaboration under the “Green Alliance” framework. He also visited the historic religious site “The Holy Trinity Church,” met with community leaders, and appreciated interfaith harmony and cooperation.

Mr. Blome also met with Caretaker, Chief Minister of Baluchistan Domki, who introduced the first-ever Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) and granted $320,000 to the Mehrgarh Museum of Baluchistan in Quetta. The U.S. also supports the reconditioning of 33 historic sites in Pakistan.

At the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome visited the Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) and said the U.S. government always supports independent media and press freedom. He also visited the Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and met with several of Karachi’s emerging startups and CED leadership. During his visit, he said that as the president Joe Biden said:

“Every time someone starts a new business, it’s an act of hope.”

He reaffirmed the U.S. government’s support for startups and emerging entrepreneurs through different U.S-funded programs.

Ambassador Blome also visited the National Incubation Center in Karachi. Here, he met entrepreneurs and innovators. He said that the U.S. has strong support for new innovators and entrepreneurs. Through corporations and collaboration, we can achieve success in economic growth. Ambassador Blome is the U.S. ambassador to Pakistan since 11 April 2022.
