Shenzhen, 13 March 2024 (WAI): The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has unveiled a significant discovery in the South China Sea, announcing identifying a new oil field with substantial reserves. This oil field, named the South Kaiping oil field, boasts proven oil and gas reserves totaling an impressive 102 million tons of oil equivalent.

Situated in the eastern expanse of the South China Sea, approximately 300 kilometers from Shenzhen City in Guangdong Province, southern China, the South Kaiping oil field holds an abundance of light crude oil. Despite its depth, with an average ocean depth of around 500 meters and the most bottomless hole drilled reaching 4,831 meters, the field promises accessible extraction.
