Determined to break down barriers to education, Sister Zeph initiated free education for girls in her community. Classes initially took place in rented, open-roof houses, with Sister Zeph providing financial support. Her grassroots efforts empowered over 500 girls, laying the foundation for the education of 100 more by 2016.

Beyond her activism, Sister Zeph pursued academic excellence through self-study. She earned a master’s degree in Political Science in 2010 and another in History in 2013. These accomplishments mirrored her dedication to empowering others through education.

Sister Zeph’s life story, alongside three of her students, became the subject of the documentary “Flight of the Falcons.” This impactful film addressed issues such as child marriage, corporal punishment, and societal pressures. It won the Gold Medal in the Best Documentary: Community Portraits category at the New York Festivals 2016 and reached the finals of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Child Rights Award for Television.

Recognition and Expansion

In 2014, Sister Zeph was awarded the Lynn Syms Prize, acknowledging her as a grassroots leader. This recognition fueled the expansion of her school, accommodating 200 girl students and offering diverse classes such as computers, beautician courses, and martial arts.
