San Jose, 15 December 2023 (WAI): President Chaves of Costa Rica and Foreign Minister Arnoldo Andre met with Deputy Secretary Richard Verma on December 14 to review the results of the US-Costa Rica High-Level Security Dialogue’s opening in San Jose.
A media statement outlining strategies for strengthening US-Costa Rican cooperation on common objectives regarding security, managing human migration, and general economic growth was published by the US Department of State on its official website.
The discussion of collaboration on regional and global challenges is another goal.
“We value Costa Rica’s strong partnership in fostering a more secure, resilient, and prosperous Western Hemisphere,” Deputy Secretary Verma stated in a written statement. “America is excited about new initiatives implemented together,” he continued.
It is possible to safeguard democracy, human rights, and the rule of law by stepping up security spending and collaboration, as Secretary Verma suggests.
The Regional Center of Excellence in Costa Rica is collaborating closely with the United States of America on workforce development. This represents a considerable advancement in semiconductors, cyber security, and other high-tech industries in response to the difficulties of the twenty-first century.
The efforts in Costa Rica to address the pressing humanitarian needs of refugees and vulnerable migrants left a lasting impression on the Secretary.
“The Population, Refugees and Migration Bureau (PRM) and UNICEF support the Fundación Llovera migrant shelter in our joint endeavor to ensure safe and humane migration,” he stated.

Additionally, Secretary Verma was motivated by the results of the Let’s Sow Security initiative, or Sembremos Seguridad, which she implemented in Costa Rica with the assistance of the US Department of State. This program helped to enhance citizen security and provide young people with an alternative to crime.
The next summit will take place in Washington in 2024, according to Foreign Minister Arnoldo Andre and Deputy Secretary Richard Verma.
