Punjab Delegation Secures Agreement in Vancouver Talks

Vancouver, Jan 30(WAI): On the direction of the interim Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, a three-member delegation from Punjab met with the delegation of British Columbia in Vancouver, a city in western Canada. They succeeded in signing an agreement with the British Columbia delegation.

Minister of Commerce SM Tanveer, Education Minister Mansoor Qadir, and Information Minister Amir Mir were part of the delegation. The British Columbia team was made up of Harry Barry, Rachna Singh, and Jagrup Brar.

The Punjab ministerial delegation reached Toronto at the invitation of the Canadian government. Both delegations discussed mutual matters and how to further strong bilateral relations.

Both delegations discussed and agreed on different proposals for bilateral cooperation and investment. In this meeting, the officials of both sides agreed to declare British Columbia as a twin city of Punjab.

The Punjab delegation presented different proposals and suggestions on the instruction of caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to increase investment in Punjab.

Both teams also discussed and agreed to concrete and further boost the bilateral ties of both provinces. They also agreed to strengthen economic and trade relations between the Punjab and British Columbia.

The Punjab delegation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Western Canada Trade Association (PWCTA) to send skilled workers to Canada.

In this meeting, British Columbia’s delegation agreed to increase the number of skilled workers from the Punjab. This step will enable the youth to seek better employment opportunities in Canada.

This has already been discussed between Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon in a meeting on January 18. During that meeting, both officials informally signed an agreement.

They agreed to maximize the number of skilled workers from Punjab. It opens new opportunities for unemployed Pakistani youth and further assists their financial situation.

In that meeting, the environmental factor also became a part of the discussion. Both officials discuss the alarmingly poor air quality of Lahore’s urban areas, making it one of the most polluted cities globally.

They also explore the appropriate solution to counter the alarming poor environmental situation and challenges faced by urban cities of Punjab.
