Islamabad, 7 December 2023 (WAI): Jalil Abbas Jilani, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, stated that his country respects and concurs with the Secretary General of the United Nations’ appeal to the Security Council to resolve the dire circumstances in Gaza by Article 99 of the UN charter.
On Wednesday, Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, said he is using Article 99 of the UN Charter for the first time.
The Secretary General of the United Nations has called on the Security Council to stop the dire situation in Gaza. As stated by Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, Pakistan welcomes and supports this demand, citing Article 99 of the UN charter.
He also called on the Security Council to prevent a humanitarian disaster and declare a humanitarian truce in the area.
The Secretary-General stated during his conversation that over 15,000 people have died since the Israeli military assault began, with 40% of those murdered being minors, and that civilians in Gaza are in grave danger.
While discussing the issue, the minister of foreign affairs stated that the Security Council needed to step up right away to safeguard Palestinian lives and put an end to this catastrophe.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Spokeswoman for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during the weekly press conference that Pakistan concurs with the Secretary General’s appeal to the international community to put a stop to the current situation and prevent a humanitarian disaster.
She went on to say that to shield the people of Gaza from an imminent genocide, the UN Security Council needs to fulfill its fundamental duty as stipulated in the UN Charter: enforcing an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

Additionally, she declared that we ask Israel’s supporters to press Israel to lift its cruel siege and cease its savage attacks on Gaza.
The Spokeswoman emphasized the need to hold an international conference to resolve the Palestinian issue, stating that a two-state solution that has been widely accepted will lead to long-lasting peace in the area.
Pakistan has reaffirmed its belief that the globally agreed-upon two-state option will lead to lasting peace.
Together with the establishment of the State of Palestine, which would have its capital in Al Quds Sharif and be based on the pre-June 1967 boundaries, as a safe, livable, sovereign nation.
