Islamabad, 11 December 2023 (WAI): Jalil Abbas Jilani, the acting Foreign Minister of Pakistan, vehemently disagreed with the recent ruling of the Indian Supreme Court over the status of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Supporting India’s 2019 activities, Jilani underlined, is a perversion of justice predicated on legal and historical misrepresentations. The world recognizes that the territory is contested, but the verdict ignores this. He emphasized that India’s attempts to acquire IIOJK are bound to fail.

The Foreign Affairs Minister of Pakistan emphasized that India’s unilateral actions, which began on August 5, 2019, to change the political and demographic makeup of IIOJK, are blatantly illegal under international law and in contravention of resolutions passed by the UN Security Council.

While stressing that the verdict did not take the focus off these crimes, he voiced severe worry about the ongoing breaches of human rights in occupied Kashmir.

The Foreign Minister rejected the restoration of statehood or elections, emphasizing that the ruling cannot take the place of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

He pleaded with the community to pay attention to the issue and demanded that India reverse its actions to foster communication and peace.

In his last remarks, Jalil Abbas Jilani reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast moral, political, and diplomatic support for the people of the Indian Ocean Jammu and Kashmir as they pursue their unalienable right to self-determination.

The contentious decision by India to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s special autonomy on August 5, 2019, alarmed several countries. India claims the move aimed at boosting growth and integration in the area, while others claim it complicated regional dynamics, increased tensions, and restricted human freedoms.
