KIU received grant of 7-million from Chinese Embassy

Gilgit, 1 September 2023 (WAI): On Wednesday, the Karakoram International University (KIU), Gilgit Baltistan, received a Rs. 7 million grant from the Chinese Embassy to encourage and foster its educational excellence.

The grant is meant to add to scholarships and contribute to other educational initiatives at the institution. This also represents an excellent relationship between the two countries for advancing knowledge and academic achievement.

Engineer Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah, Vice Chancellor of the university, received a check for Rs. 7 million while meeting with the Counselor of Culture, Zhang Heqing, and Bao Zhang, Counselor of the Political and Media Section at the embassy. Bao expressed gratitude to KIU in a formal statement for its vital contribution to nurturing bilateral ties between Pakistan and China.

Furthermore, 130 KIU students received scholarships for the “China-Pakistan Friendship-Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship” program announced on June 20, 2023. This scholarship project, supported by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, aims to enhance gender equality and guarantees that female students have a minimum 50% quota across the KIU’s main campus and sub-campuses.

The China Study Centre (CSC) at Karakoram International University (KIU) again awarded 130 students the “China-Pakistan Friendship-Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship” on August 24.

The Chinese Consulate in Pakistan sponsors the scholarship. A total of Rs. 5.2 million was awarded among students at a ceremony, with each scholarship recipient getting Rs. 40,000. The scholarship program also has the condition of providing half of the scholarships based on merit and the other half on need, which the CSC KIU met.

This initiative provided 80 scholarships to students at the KIU main campus in Gilgit. The group includes 80 undergraduate students, with 30 MS and PhD scholars receiving scholarships. The Chinese Consulate in Pakistan is the sponsor of this scholarship.
