Copenhagen, 22 December 2023 (WAI): On December 19, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the United States and Denmark agreed on a ten-year Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA).

Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, revealed that the deal will let US soldiers and military hardware on Danish territory.

The DCA is the next phase in our long-standing defense cooperation with a NATO member, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin stated in his released written statement. Together with NATO, the DCA will improve our two-way military-to-military interaction.

The US state government reports that Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken attended the signing ceremony in Washington on December 21 with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen.

Secretary Blinken stated, “Denmark and the United States have been close NATO friends and security partners for over 75 years. Denmark is still at the forefront of keeping Putin’s assault on Ukraine from succeeding strategically.

Secretary Blinken said, “We will strengthen NATO for peace and security throughout the continent; our nations will be able to coordinate more efficiently, and our forces will stay together when the DCA goes into effect.

“The US has made similar agreements with our Nordic friends, and we are looking forward to welcoming Sweden into NATO,” stated Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen.

This defense accord is ushering in a safer Nordic area. We are always here for you, and you are always welcome.

The Foreign Minister further emphasized the need to stand with allies in the face of two major global crises: Gaza’s humanitarian disaster and Russia’s ruthless assault against Ukraine.

Sweden shares its coastline with Russia, and the United States inked a similar pact in December 2023.

The US and Denmark mark their alliance with resilient economic collaboration, NATO partnership, cultural exchanges, and mutual defense commitments.
