Gwadar, 12 February 2024 (WAI): China and Pakistan researchers are collaborating to advance intelligent and secure city development in Pakistan through AI within the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Â The Cypins lab was established at the National University of Science and Technology Islamabad in 2022, working on various fields such as UAV control and AI localization to apply smart cities to fulfill their local needs.
This collaboration brings technological advancement, such as efficient traffic management and infrastructure monitoring, and fosters the talent between the two countries. Pakistan lacks AI technologies, so it is the last in the technology race among nations. With ongoing projects and partnerships, the CPInS lab promises to advance Pakistan’s infrastructure and AI development.
The Director of the CPInS lab, Dr Wu Jun, reported on Sunday that this project made significant progress in smart cities’ AI development and localization of AI recognition. Our project is deeply connected with the locals, and their problems will be reduced in the AI smart city. We are working to implement core technologies in the project.

Dr Wu Jun told the reporter that the floods have threatened Pakistan. The scientists from both sides pooled their wisdom to mitigate the solution to the floods. They developed a vital result, “UAV-assisted edge framework for all-time disaster management,” which provides a scientific and practical solution to the local flood fight. During this project, road cameras will be monitored through UAV control and will reduce the violation of road rules and regulations.
Apart from that, in this project, there would be an exchange of talent from both sides. Pakistan and China both have potential talent in AI technology. This project would decrease the unemployment in both states. Through further cooperation with China, Pakistan can become an AI development hub in South Asia.
