Climate change is one of the biggest problems we have been facing since the Industrial Revolution. It directly and indirectly affects humanity and is also known as the Climate Crisis. There should be a prescription policy to stop global warming.
World Leadership is discussing this issue as they are under pressure to decide what exactly we should do and who can we get off it. Climate Change is an issue for both developing and developed countries. It is important to understand Climate Change, its effects, and its causes. The level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere comes from the extraction of burning fossil fuels (such as coal, natural gas, and oil).
Carbon dioxide is a heating gas, also known as greenhouse gas. When carbon dioxide and some other gases are in the air and absorb sunlight and solar radiation, they bounce on the earth’s surface, and heat is produced, causing the planet to be hotter. Earth’s temperature has been rising since the 18th century, and 1.6 fh – 0.9 C has been increased.
Also, glaciers of the North and South poles are shrinking, clearing land and cutting forest cause of producing carbon dioxide. The continuous climate change causes water scarcity, intense droughts, rising sea levels, catastrophic storms, and melting glaciers.
In 2020, some countries produced more than others: China, the United States of America, India, the European Union, Indonesia, the Russian Federation, and Brazil. Pakistan, compared to these countries, is not producing carbon dioxide, but on top of that, it is affected by climate change.
The impact of human activities since the onset of industrialization in the 18th century has raised carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 50%, and now it is increasing by 99%. 2024 will rank as the warmest year on record.
It is very important to discuss what steps we should take to deal with this situation. A comprehensive strategy to deal with environmental pollution at the government level is essential. It is also very important to have a government policy and implement it.
In Global warming, if we talk about the South Asia region, 80 % of Agriculture production is affected, which is momentary. To raise awareness of how people can protect themselves from heat waves and climate change. On the other hand, the illiteracy rate of Pakistan is about 62%, which is very high compared to neighboring countries. If no work is done on it, the percentage will continuously increase. Therefore, it is very important to understand the problem first. And how to deal with it. It is important to discuss this issue.
Climate change also affects the livelihood and communities. People do not have awareness about this. It is very important to make people aware of what to do with themselves to protect them from heatwaves. In heatwaves, power and water crises pose a threat to human lives.
In 2015, it was a bad experience for the people of Karachi. The heatwave killed 1200 human souls, and not only that, 50,000 people were sick. In 2018, a heatwave killed 65 people in three days in the city. Last year, Pakistan and India broke the record for death by hitting a heatwave. Due to climate change, it is necessary to solve the problem immediately.

If we talk about NGOs, they are non-state actors, so they work independently on it. If we talk about the government framework, the general government could be more responsive. The government needs to reduce it immediately so that a bad Nixon can be avoided in the coming days. Policy has to be made keeping social economics in mind. Policy making at the local level should be facilitated to those who need it. Implementation at the government level is zero. The government had to negotiate on this issue.
Global climate change’s effect on the agriculture sector and its impact are increasing day by day. Pakistan produces wheat, rice, cotton, sugarcane, and maize. These crops are affected by climate change. Climate Change is caused by human causes, which is why the weather changes. The duration of summer has increased, and the duration of winter has decreased.
Sudden rains, sudden flooding, and natural disasters that are coming are due to climate change. It is becoming very difficult to predict what is happening now. There has to be a strategy to deal with natural calamities in any facilities program for the public by which they lose themselves. If climate change is not tackled now, it will be difficult to deal with it in the coming days.
They are harming both us and the environment. Climate change is not so much a part of Pakistan as it is an influence on it. According to their Global Climate Risk Index, Pakistan is at number 5 among the countries that are at risk due to climate change. In the last two decades, the Pakistani economy has lost 4 billion dollars due to climate change.
Besides that, 152 have faced natural calamities, which has affected food security. The Pakistani government will have to come to its senses, and efforts must be made to deal with this problem. The government has to come out of its comfort zone to be familiar with the crisis caused by climate change. It has been unfortunate since the beginning of Pakistan that whoever is in power would work for his own interest.
In addition to all of us Pakistanis who perform our services, we all have this duty to participate actively in our country’s services. According to Quaid Azam, it is our duty to unite and engage in the development of the country. If every citizen of Pakistan does his duty, the country will move towards development soon. For this, we all have to work with unity. Any country makes progress only when it plans for the next ten years. To deal with the challenges, organize workshops and seminars to create awareness among the people.
Instead of cutting trees, trees should be planted. Plants have the ability to combat environmental pollution. Trees, as they are, have the facility to repeatedly absorb carbon dioxide within themselves and produce oxygen to improve air quality. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan planted 10 billion trees. According to a report, all the trees after Imran Khan’s regime change were burned.
