Pakistan-Mexico bilateral political talks

Islamabad, 6 December 2023 (WAI): The sixth session of the Pakistan-Mexico Bilateral Political Consultations ended in Islamabad. The two countries examined bilateral relations and regional and multilateral developments during the meeting.

Ambassador Mariam Aftab was leading the delegation from Pakistan, Additional Foreign Secretary (America’s), Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan.

Conversely, Ambassador Jose Tripp Villanueva, the Director General for Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East at the Mexican Foreign Ministry, headed the Mexican mission.

The whole range of ties between the two nations and regional and international concerns were discussed at the bilateral political consultation.

In particular, the Additional Foreign Secretary emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening and expanding its commercial, agricultural, investment, scientific, technology, and people-to-people contacts with Mexico.

She further emphasized that Pakistan was actively pursuing policies that would support regional connectivity, peace, progress, and development, as well as geo-economics demands.

The collaboration between the two nations’ representatives in several international organizations and venues, particularly the UN and the Security Council Reform issue, was praised by both parties.

Mexico and Pakistan still back each other’s candidacies to the UN and other international organizations.

Stronger cooperation on consular matters was also discussed between the two delegations. Reopening Mexico’s resident mission in Islamabad is only one way the Pakistani delegation emphasized the value of stronger diplomatic ties.

Discussions on regional and international issues, such as the circumstances in Afghanistan, Palestine, and the conflict in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), were also part of the deliberations.

In addition, Ambassador Villanueva visited the Foreign Secretary during his visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Furthermore, the two leaders expressed their happiness with the direction bilateral relations are taking and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between Pakistan and Mexico in several areas.
